📡 A diet to save your mind & soul
Welcome to another Pulse!
Yesterday was the hottest day of 2019 in the UK! Temperatures hit 34C (93F), and it was 🥵… I know many of you are like ‘34C ain’t hot! We constantly have 46C!’ and I can relate; I do! But with the UK standards, 34C is hot enough to grant these reactions!
Before the heatwave hit, on Friday, I went to see Westlife live. It was a lot of fun! [if you know them or are a fan, you’re probably old like me 😁]
Oh, and here’s something you should definitely take a look at ’The Land Where the Internet Ends.’ The story is excellent, but the medium-format photos are just fabulous!
Now, get reading.

The Attention Diet
In the time it took me to outline this article I checked Twitter three times and my email twice. I responded to four emails. I checked Slack once and sent text messages to two people. I went down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos once, costing me about 30 minutes of productivity, and I probably checked my books’ ranks on Amazon upwards of 3,172 times.

The World’s Most Valuable Brands Continue to Grow
BrandZ has released its Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2019 report showing continued growth in value of the world’s most valuable brands, albeit not at the rate from last year. The report indicates that the value of the top 100 brands grew by 7% in the past year (compared to the 21% jump a year earlier), adding $328 billion to reach a total of $4.7 trillion in 2019.
Despite not matching or exceeding last year’s record-breaking single-year increase in the report’s 12-year history, this year’s figure can boast a 226% increase from 2006 when the top 100 brands’ collective value was $1.4 trillion.

Facebook Employees are NOT as Happy with Mark Zuckerberg as They Used to Be
Facebook employees have long been known for their fierce loyalty to the company and its founder Mark Zuckerberg. In the aftermath of numerous privacy debacles, including ones in which Facebook has exposed users’ personal information and facilitated attempts to undermine American democracy, that enthusiasm seems to have flagged.
The Facebook CEO saw his ranking among top US CEOs plummet this year, from No. 16 in 2018 to No. 55 this year, though he does have an approval rating of 94 percent, according to new data from Glassdoor, a site where employees can anonymously rate their jobs and their CEOs. His approval rating was 96 percent last year.

For App Makers: Apple’s App Store vs Google Play
Despite the fact that the installed base of Android devices is significantly larger than it is for iOS devices, app publishers still seem to find larger earnings potential on Apple’s App Store compared to Google Play. That’s according to a new Sensor Tower Intelligence report, which estimates that the 100 highest-earning app publishers on the App Store made 65 percent more on average than the top 100 publishers on Google Play.
According to Sensor Tower’s estimates, the top 100 iOS app publishers made $84 million on average in Q1 2019, compared to $51 million for the most successful Android app makers. The difference between the two platforms is even more pronounced when excluding games publishers. The highest-grossing non-gaming app publishers for iOS outperformed the top 100 on Google’s Play Store by 232 percent.
