📡 You don't have to feel good all the time 😐
Hello and welcome to this week’s Pulse — the weekly techie/businessy newsletter from @perspectiveix. I’m your host, Ben, and I’m gonna try and keep this week’s intro short.
I wrote a short piece about Brave’s new feature: Brave Together. It’s an unlimited videoconferencing tool for with a particular focus on privacy.
Also, did you know CAPTCHA is an acronym for “completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart?” Now, did you know what exactly you were really doing when you were typing a CAPTCHA?
Every time you typed a distorted pain-in-the-ass captcha, you were contributing to digitising a book! I know! it’s 🤯
Listen to Luis von Ahn explaining creating [re]CAPTCHA & Duolingo. It’s a fantastic story.
Now, let’s get on with today’s Pulse 👇

📊 STATISTICS
COVID-19 Expected to Drive Higher Social Media Usage This Year
with Instagram and Snapchat to Benefit!
As a result of the changing media environment, with adults spending more of their time indoors, eMarketer has significantly revised its forecast figures from when it last made its predictions in Q4 2019.
The earlier forecast expected time spent on social media sites to stick at 76 minutes per day from 2019 through 2021, but these new figures expect not only more time in 2020 (82 mins), but also in 2021 (80 mins) and 2022 (79 mins).

People like Quibi more than Disney+ & Netflix
Since launch on April 6, Quibi has been downloaded about 4 million times. Around 30% of these downloads are daily active users. And while we can’t estimate Quibi’s advertising revenue, the app has generated $106,302 via in-app purchase revenue. These people didn’t get the memo on the free trial. The real test will be in early-mid July when we start to see how much revenue comes in once the 90 day trial wears off (yea I phrased it like it’s a potion) for most early downloaders.
