📡 You thought ⏳ is 💰? You were WRONG.
Hello and welcome to this week’s Pulse — the weekly techie/businessy newsletter from @perspectiveix. I’m your host, Behrouz, and I’d like to thank you for being here.
We’re very close to our 100th Pulse issue here, and if I was a normal human being, I’d be preparing to celebrate it.
But [you sensed it, didn’t you?], I’m not — well, not so much anyway.
So, I decided to push myself even harder — and this time, with more speciality involved: Introducing Attentixn.

Attention is the new publication I’m working on where I try to make sense of what’s happening from an attention [economy] perspective.
But Why, right? Well, because:
attention is the most valuable resource we have. It’s even more scarce than time. Therefore, we should be a lot better at understanding, managing, and [re]directing it.
Understanding attention and applying economic concepts to it in various situations helped me navigate my life [and my PhD] a lot better. I’m hoping it can help you too; even if it’s only one person and just a little bit.

📊 STATISTICS
Reuters Institute — Digital News Report 2020
This year’s report comes in the midst of a global health pandemic that is unprecedented in modern times and whose economic, political, and social consequences are still unfolding. The seriousness of this crisis has reinforced the need for reliable, accurate journalism that can inform and educate populations, but it has also reminded us how open we have become to conspiracies and misinformation. Journalists no longer control access to information, while greater reliance on social media and other platforms give people access to a wider range of sources and ‘alternative facts’, some of which are at odds with official advice, misleading, or simply false.

Vacation Rental Apps Rebound
The travel market, including OTAs and vacation rental apps, took a nose dive at the start of the pandemic, as countries put strict travel bans and social distancing orders in place. In the past month or so, some of those restrictions have lifted, and it looks like people are itching to get out of the house.

Which Recommendation Types Do Consumers Find Most Compelling?
Marketers are well aware of the many benefits to be found in the personalisation of digital experiences, but consumers don’t necessarily share the same enthusiasm for personalisation.
A recent report from Adobe [available on slideshare] finds that consumers are split on whether personalised recommendations are well suited (52%) or poorly suited (49%) to them, but are open to better personalisation.
