Facebook’s role in Brexit – and the threat to democracy
For over a year, the Observer writer, Carole Cadwalladr, has been probing a darkness at the heart of Silicon Valley. Last week, at a TED talk that became a global viral sensation, she told the tech billionaires, in their faces, that they had broken democracy.

Snapchat's Average DAUs - Credit: Snap Inc
Snap: Improved, but not there yet.
Despite ongoing pressure from Facebook, Snapchat has continued to hold its ground and gain some based on Snap’s latest performance numbers.
In its 1Q19 report, Snap has showed a slight increase in active users, and an increase in revenue, which can be attributable to its rebuilt Android app.
On users - Snapchat is now being used by 190 million people every day, a slight increase on the previous quarter, though still down on its 191 million DAU peak.

Twitter: Unpopular updates, but more users and revenue.
While algorithmic home feed with more injected tweets was not the most popular update in Twitter’s history, they seem to have had the desired effect: more active users.
According to Twitter’s 1Q19 report, the number of active users on the platform has increased in the last quarter - still down from what it was a year ago, but it’s enough to suggest that, at least to some degree, Twitter’s engagement nudging efforts are working.

Facebook: Beats the expectations despite scandals.
Despite all the scandals and scrutiny surrounding Facebook, and the reports and rumours of its decline, their Q1 2019 report shows that Facebook now reaches 2.38 billion users around the world. This means 55 million new users from their quarter.
And of those 2.38 billion, 1.56 billion are logging onto Facebook every day, up 39 million on Q4 2018.
